Bulgaria is number three for British buyers
20 December 2006 The preliminary findings of the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP) 2006 market report, shows that Bulgaria is the third most popular country for British property buyers, after perennial favourites Spain and France. Based on data supplied by its members, including leading foreign currency brokers HiFX, Currrencies Direct and MoneyCorp, the report estimates that nearly £20 billion was spent on overseas property in 2006. Bulgaria makes up an estimated 7.7% of this market, nudging the US into 4th spot with 7.5%; but well behind Spain with 31% and France’s 18.9%.
“This is a phenomenal position for such a new market,” comments AIPP Chief Executive, Paul Owen. “No country has grown to such prominence so quickly.”
However, the findings also highlight that most British buyers still prefer to purchase property in the “established favourites” in Europe, such as France, Spain and Italy, rather than emerging markets like Bulgaria, comments Owen.
The AIPP findings are supported by data released by the international property portal TheMoveChannel.com, which show that Bulgaria was the second most popular country in its November search listings, after France.
