New Dalaman terminal
16 October 2006 Dalaman airport’s new international terminal was officially opened by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in September. Serving as the main gateway for tourists and property owners travelling to the Mediterranean resorts from Marmaris and Datca to Kas, the $150 million glass and steel terminal has an annual capacity of 10 million passengers, and will relieve the old terminal which had poor facilities and suffered from severe overcrowding during the summer season.
The new airport terminal is part of a government-led plan to develop tourism in the Dalaman area, with local projects including a golf course, several resort hotels and a new road tunnel linking the area to the neighbouring resort and yachting centre of Gocek.
